Ski-Orienteering Larch Hills

Description:

Ski orienteering is a sport that combines cross country skiing and orienteering - imagine a ski race where everyone chooses their own route.  Ski Orienteering is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.  It can be enjoyed as a ski in the woods or as a competitive race combining strategic thinking, navigation, strength, and high intensity cross-country skiing.  You get an electronic timing chip and a highly detailed map and navigate your way through a series of checkpoints.  

Schedule:

• 9:30 - Registration Opens
• 10:00 - First Start
• 11:00 - Last Start
• 12:30 - Courses Close (all participants must report to the finish whether they have completed the course or not)

Pricing:

Event Fee:  (all participants must pay this fee)

• $5 per person
• $20 maximum per family

Trail Fees:  (only non members must pay this fee)

If you are not a member of the Larch Hills Nordic Society (LHNS) you must either purchase LHNS membership or pay the day use trail fees.  LHNS membership and day use fees are found on their website.

Approximate Larch Hills Day Use Fees:

• $10 per person
• $20 per family

If you are a junior racer or a member of a jackrabbit group who is participating in the Ski-O your coaches will take care of registration and money. 

Courses:

Four courses are offered.  Although the distances may appear to be quite short, they are measured in a straight line.  Even if you do not get lost and take the best route to every checkpoint, you will still likely being going double the distance of the course.  Also note that skiing on ungroomed backcountry trails may be the fastest route to certain checkpoints, so while both skate or classic skis are allowed, be strategic in your ski selection.

Registration:  

Please sign up for your course on the right so that we know to print a map for you!  Click the green "+ Register" button next to your desired course and follow the instructions.

Registration Deadline: 4:00pm on Friday, December the 30th.

Payment is on the day, cash only please.  If you do not register online, very limited on the day registration is available for certain courses.

Event Organizers/Insurance Coverage:

This event is being run by the Larch Hills Nordic Society (LHNS).  The Sage Orienteering Club is not involved in organizing the event, but is renting its timing equipment, maps, and registration services to LHNS.  As the event is organized by LHNS, insurance is provided through them, not through the Sage Orienteering Club.  Having a Sage Orienteering Club membership does not provide you with discount for this event.
