Map: Larch Hills Ski-O
Ski orienteering is a sport that combines cross country skiing and orienteering - imagine a ski race where everyone chooses their own route. Ski Orienteering is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It can be enjoyed as a ski in the woods or as a competitive race combining strategic thinking, navigation, strength, and high intensity cross-country skiing. You get an electronic timing chip and a highly detailed map and navigate your way through a series of checkpoints.

Even if you do not get lost and take the best route to every checkpoint, you will still likely being going double the distance of the course. Also note that skiing on ungroomed backcountry trails may be the fastest route to certain checkpoints, so while both skate or classic skis are allowed, be strategic in your ski selection.
