Haines Creek Salmon Arm
April 26th 2026 1:00pm - 3:30pm
Organizer: Phil Wallensteen (Event Director)
Map: Haines Creek
Overview
This event is part of the Salmon Arm spring training series. It will take place in the area surrounding the Silver Creek community park. There are many motorbike trails throughout the area. Spring is a popular time for motorbiking as well and we will be sharing the trails with them. There are lots of trails though so you are not likely to meet any.
We will be using SI timing. SI sticks are available if you don't have your own. We also have a limited number of compasses that can be borrowed.
Compasses are not really required for the beginners course. There will be 3 courses: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
You must be an orienteering club member to participate. Please be sure to register all participants in your group so we print enough maps.
Location, Parking, and Map
We will park at the Silver Creek Community Park. See the map below for the location.
This event will take place on the Haines Creek map. Maps will be provided for the course you choose. The forest is more open and easier running than many of the maps near Salmon Arm. There are also areas selectively logged which are very open with not much slash. The boundaries of the logging have been mapped with a green dotted line but mapping of the vegetation and slash within the logged area is an ongoing project.
Cost
The cost is by cash donation. There will be a donation box at the registration table when you arrive. Donations help pay for the map you will recieve and for the timing equipment we use.
