Overview

Welcome to our Kelowna spring training series! We have two trainings on Thursday evenings, a week off for the Easter weekend, and then two more trainings planned in April. More might be added afterwards too. These low-key orienteering activities will happen Thursday evening at 6:00pm at a different location in the Kelowna area. There will be both beginner and advanced courses, so there is something for everyone and their family.

Terrain

This is a smaller, predominantly forested city park belonging to the District of Lake Country. We are grateful to their parks department for allowing us to use this park with its dense trail system. A condition of our permit is that we stay off of the ball diamonds (which are marked out of bounds on the map). The map is at 1:4000 (the same as our Urban/University campus maps), so expect lots of direction changes and controls in this small area.

Meeting Location

In the dirt parking lot just off of Camp Road. This is not the main parking lot for the park, but this is the secondary parking. In the unlikely event this parking lot is full, use the main parking lot, and then make the short walk over to this parking lot. Please be careful turning into this lot, as traffic often speeds along Camp Road.

If you need a ride, please email contact@sageorienteering.ca and we will see what we can do to help you out if another member is coming from your area of town.

Registration

If you registered for the spring training series once, you are good to show up without registering for subsequent weeks.

Please register as soon as possible, and no later than Wednesday evening, the night before the activity, so that we know roughly how many participants to expect and can print enough maps. We will print a few extra maps, so if you don't register in time we may still have a map for you.

Cost

  • No cost for Sage Orienteering Club members
  • $5 for visitors from other Canadian and international orienteering clubs

Sage orienteering club membership is required, which costs $10/adult for the year and cheaper prices for kids. Membership is required to fulfill our insurance obligations. We try and keep costs to a bare minimum while still paying for insurance and map printing. Everybody here is a volunteer doing our best. If you are able to make a donation to help cover some map printing costs or for other equipment, it would also be much appreciated.

Kelowna
