How it works: When you register on the morning of the event you will be given an SI stick for your group. Each participant will be given a map of Larch Hills ski trails 20 minutes before the start so that you can plan your route (you may want to bring a highlighter or pencil).
This is a score orienteering event like Sage's adventure runs. Controls (checkpoints) are marked on the map and are worth 40, 80, or 120 points. To get to the controls you will have to use trackset trails, backcountry trails, and possibly short sections of snowshoe trails. Therefore, classic skis are recommended. The control has an orange and white flag with an SI unit. You use your SI stick to punch the SI unit at the control and your time at the control will be recorded. You have 1.5 hours to get as many points as you can. There is a penalty for coming back late. You lose 20 points for each minute you are late.
Once you are back you come into the chalet and download your SI stick and your score will be calculated by the computer.
