Sierra (New Map!) - Kelowna Spring Training Kelowna
March 19th 2026 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Organizer: David Bakker (Event Director)
Map: Sierra
Overview
Welcome to our Kelowna spring training series! We have two trainings on Thursday evenings, a week off for the Easter weekend, and then two more trainings planned in April. More might be added afterwards too. These low-key orienteering activities will happen Thursday evening at 6:00pm at a different location in the Kelowna area. There will be both beginner and advanced courses, so there is something for everyone and their family.
Terrain
This is a brand new forest map. It is just off of a dead end road sandwiched between private property and Mill Creek. There is a nice little trail system used predominantly by the local dirt biking community, but it doesn't get very much use by anyone. The beginner course will mostly stay on trails, but you will have an opportunity to cut through the forest if you want to. The advanced course will have lots of off trail travel and has lots of short legs this week to get you warmed up for the orienteering season to come. Wear aggressive footwear, and consider wearing full leg cover.
Meeting Location
In the cul-de-sac at the end of Sierra Road. See map pin at the bottom of the page. Please be sure not to block either of the two driveways in the vicinity. If the cul-de-sac is full, turn around and park along the edge of the road on the way back down. There is a fair bit of space.
If you need a ride, please email contact@sageorienteering.ca and we will see what we can do to help you out if another member is coming from your area of town.
Bring a headlight just in case you are out a bit late (sunset is at ~7:00pm)!
Registration
Please register as soon as possible, and no later than Wednesday evening, the night before the activity, so that we know roughly how many participants to expect and can print enough maps. We will print a few extra maps, so if you don't register in time we may still have a map for you.
If you registered for the spring training series once, you are good to show up without registering for subsequent weeks.
Cost
- No cost for Sage Orienteering Club members
- $5 for visitors from other Canadian and international orienteering clubs
Sage orienteering club membership is required, which costs $10/adult for the year and cheaper prices for kids. Membership is required to fulfill our insurance obligations. We try and keep costs to a bare minimum while still paying for insurance and map printing. Everybody here is a volunteer doing our best. If you are able to make a donation to help cover some map printing costs or for other equipment, it would also be much appreciated.
