Post Event:

Results are now posted for this event, thanks to all for coming out in the rain! Keep an eye on the website and your emails - we will probably be doing some trainings through late September and October on Thursday evenings in Kelowna!

Description:

What: Orienteering is a sport where you navigate your way though a series of checkpoints using a map choosing your own route as you go. It's basically a suped-up scavenger hunt.

Who: Anyone!

Where: Part way up the Postill Lake FSR - it is 2WD accessible. See the Google map at the bottom of the page for exact meeting location.

Schedule:

  • 10:00 - Registration Opens
  • 10:15 - First Starts
  • 11:30 - Last Starts
  • 13:30 - Courses Close - all participants must report to the finish line by this time.

Courses:

We will have three different courses to suit all skill levels and physical abilities, and will offer a beginner and intermediate workshop prior to the event. If you have never orienteered before, we recommend signing up for the beginner course no matter your physical ability. If you get through it quickly you are welcome to also do the intermediate or advanced course at no extra cost.

Courses are measured in a straight line - but remember that you pick your own route so you are almost guaranteed to go further than the posted distance.

How to Sign Up:

Registration is open. Registration deadline midnight of September 14th.

Click the "+ Register" button next to your desired course. Follow the instructions. This signs you up for your course so we know how many people are coming to the event and how many maps to print of each course. Help us keep costs low and save the environment by preventing over-printing of maps!

Payment is on site on the day paid by cash or cheque. If you pre-register online and you do not show up, there are no financial repurcusions.

Membership:

Membership in the Sage Orienteering Club is required for all events for insurance purposes. Membership is dirt cheap, and payable in cash when you arrive. We ask that you fill in our online membership form in advance of the event to help us save paper, volunteer time, and your time at the event. As a bonus - your first event comes free with your membership!

Membership Costs:

  • Individual Junior (20 or Under): $5
  • Individual Adult (21+): $10
  • Family (Immediate): $20

What should I bring?

Wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting a little dirty! Long pants are advisable so you don't get your legs scratched up. Bring a compass and whistle if you have them. If you want some post event nutrition, bring your own water and snacks.

Cost:

$5 per person (max $10/family) to cover cost of maps and insurance. As mentioned above in the membership section - membership includes the cost of your first event.

Directions:

Follow the blue “Postill Lake Lodge” signs along Old Vernon Road for 1.1km then turn right at the four way stop to stay on Old Vernon Road. Take the first left onto Postill Drive, after 1.1km turn left onto Postill Lake Road. Continue up Postill Lake Road and follow the orienteering signs (orange and white).
