Come out and enjoy some early fall running or hiking in the hills above Kamloops! It looks like the weather will be great.

If you're not sure what orienteering is all about, email grannysmith111@gmail.com or turn up and speak to Brendan at the site - we will be happy to get you started.

There will be three courses: 2.7 km (7 controls and 85m elevation gain), 5.0 km (11 controls and 180m elevation gain), and 6.5 km (16 controls and 315m elevation gain). Printed maps will be provided.

Registration at 11:30 AM and starts at noon.

Course closes at 2 PM.

Event organizer: Brendan Matthews

Driving directions to Red Plateau

From Kamloops take Tranquille Road towards the Kamloops Airport. Drive past Airport Road and past the Kamloops Golf and Country Club continuing on Tranquille Road to a fork in the road. Take the right fork (left will take you down to the Tranquille properties), this is the Red Lake Road (actually it is the Tranquille/Criss Creek/Red Lake Road). From Airport Road to the Red Lake Road junction is about 6 km.

You will almost immediately cross a railroad track and continue on a good gravel road as you begin climbing up to a major hairpin turn (Frederick Road is on your left here). Continue on the Red Lake Road. From the Red Lake Road junction to the hairpin turn is about 4 km.

After the hairpin turn you will still climb for another 3 km or so then turn left on a secondary gravel road. This turn will be marked with an orienteering sign.

This secondary road is rough, rutted and narrow; you need to use caution as you climb further still. The event start will be along this road about 3 km up.

There will be orienteering direction signs (square signs coloured white and orange) along the way starting after the Golf course.

We really need someone to set the September 28, 2014 C-Meet on the Grasslands map. If you have never set an event we will provide plenty of help both with planning and placing controls. Setting the occasional event is an excellent way to improve your navigation skills. Reply to grannysmith111@gmail.com if you are interested.
